SANTA CRUZ — Police have made an arrest in connection to a May 22nd drive-by shooting: 29-year-old Anthony Jimenez of Watsonville, who was arrested at his workplace in Scotts Valley.

Early Sunday morning at 4:09, police responded to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of Washburn Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered several shots had been fired into the front door of a home during a drive-by shooting.

One victim, an unnamed 20-year-old, had been hit in the foot. He was treated at a Bay Area trauma center and released. Officers established a crime scene and recovered several bullets, as well as interviewing witnesses who reported seeing a light-colored Volkswagen Jetta fleeing the scene.

Police believe the suspect had become involved in an argument during a party at the home. The suspect then left, and a short time later returned with a weapon and opened fire on the house.

The investigation eventually led police to Jimenez’s workplace in Scotts Valley on May 24th, after he was seen driving a vehicle matching the description given at the crime scene. Detectives served a search warrant on his home in Watsonville the next day and recovered additional evidence, save for the gun used in the shooting (which is still missing).

Jimenez was arrested on charges of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and criminal threats. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.
