NORCO — Police in Fontana arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for robbing a small business in Norco several days earlier.
On Tuesday, May 31, 2016, about 12:00 p.m., cellular telephone business, located in the 1800 block of Hamner Avenue, Norco reported that they had been robbed. According to a store employee, a man brandished a handgun and then proceeded to demanded money from the victim. The robber obtained an undisclosed amount of money, then fled in an unknown direction.
The Norco Riverside Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team conducted an investigation over several day and was able to identify the suspect’s vehicle, sharing this information with other law enforcement agencies.
On June 2, 2016, about 4:30 p.m., the city of Fontana, local officers spotted the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the driver of the vehicle was Steven Bradley Telford, a 47- year-old Fontana resident.
Telford matched the description of the Norco robbery suspect. Officers from the Fontana Police Department searched the vehicle and discovered evidence believed to be related to the Norco robbery as well as additional crimes.
Telford, who also had an outstanding arrest warrant for armed robbery out of San Bernardino County was arrested.
The Norco Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was able to identify Telford as the suspect in the May 31, Norco armed robbery after further investigation.
Telford was booked into a San Bernardino County jail facility for several felony charges, unrelated to the Norco robbery. Robbery charges have been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Telford remains in-custody with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
