MARINA — Two Marina residents have been arrested after a plate check on their vehicle revealed it to have been stolen. Arrested were 25-year-old Kayla Ann Miles and 21-year-old Kevin Easter Jr.
On Sunday, June 26, right around midnight, a Marina Public Safety Officer ran the registration of a vehicle parked in the 300 block of Carmel Avenue. As it turns out, the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Reno.
The officer attempted to conduct a high-risk stop, but the driver hit the gas. A high-speed pursuit ensued, eventually going out of Marina and heading southbound on Highway 1 at speeds exceeding 100 mph. As they were headed into Monterey, the vehicle reversed course and headed north.
The vehicle then attempted to exit the highway at the off-ramp at Imjin Parkway, but lost control and veered off the road and into the sand.
Two suspects then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Easter was quickly apprehended, but Miles managed to avoid capture and was not immediately located. With the assistance of several agencies, a perimeter was set up and a K9 unit was deployed. Miles was soon located a short distance from the initial stop, where she was subdued by the K9 unit.
She was treated at a nearby medical center for minor injuries before being taken into custody and booked on outstanding warrants as well as vehicle theft and evading officers. Easter was also booked into Monterey County Jail.
