On the evening of July 14th at around 8:30 p.m., reports of a robbery came in from the Splash and Dash Car Wash at 8100 E. Brundage Lane in east Bakersfield.
According to the report, “two suspects had entered the business, removed the cash register, and fled the scene in a vehicle.” The employees of the car wash witnessed the incident and were able to give a description of the suspects and the type of vehicle they fled in.
A few moments later, a deputy of the Lamont Substation located the vehicle, which sped up as police began chasing it. After about five minutes, deputies lost track of the vehicle.
The sheriff’s air support unit was called in and was able to locate the vehicle moving towards westbound Highway 58 from Weedpatch Highway. The vehicle went at speeds over 120 mph during the pursuit.
The suspects exited highway 58 and eventually exited the vehicle and ran into the Vallarta Market. Responding deputies were notified of the suspect’s location and set up a perimeter around the market. Customers and employees were asked to evacuate the area. The employees told the deputies that the suspects ran to the back of the store.
Deputies were able to find and arrest one suspect hiding in a storage area. The other suspect fled the scene through the back door of the store before responding deputies arrived.
The suspect’s getaway vehicle was “reported to have been stolen from Fresno and contained the cash register that was stolen from the car wash.” Another stolen vehicle linked to the two suspects was located later that evening.
The arrested suspect was identified as 20-year-old Anthony Ramirez. He was charged for possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary, vehicle theft, reckless evading, conspiracy, delaying or resisting an officer, driving without a license, operating a vehicle against traffic, and a felony no bail warrant.
