On July 16th, around 8 p.m. West Covina officers spotted a white Acura that suddenly sped off in the area of Holton and Avington. Officers promptly went in a pursuit of the vehicle.
The driver blew through the stop sign at the intersection of Francisquito and Walnut and ended up hitting two vehicles that were already in the intersection. The vehicles that the suspect collided into were a white Nissan Maxima and a white Ford Expedition, headed northbound and southbound respectively.
A mother was driving the Maxima containing her two daughters, ages 7-years-old and 8-months-old, when the collision occurred. According to authorities, “All were injured, with the baby suffering serious injuries.” They were transported to the County USC Medical Center.
The Expedition carried two men and two women, who were all also injured and transported to local hospitals.
The current conditions of all of the victims are unknown at this time.
The driving suspect was identified as Robert Lopez, 26 of La Puente. He was arrested immediately and transported to a local hospital and, once his injuries were treated, will be charged for felony DUI from the injuries inflicted and felony evading.
According to records, Lopez has had two other counts for DUI within the last year, starting in July of 2015.
