DAVIS — A Davis daycare operator was arrested on Thursday, July 14, 2016, on suspicion of molesting a young girl under the facility’s care.
Eduardo Alejandro Letelier was arrested and booked into Yolo County Jail on Thursday, July 14, 2016 on investigation of child molestation and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $1 million.
Letelier and his wife, Ximena Letelier, have operated Ximena’s Daycare since 2011 inside their home on the 800 block of Braddock Court in Davis.
Davis Police Department Lt. David Delaini said the four-year-old victim’s mother reported that her child has been sexually molested at the daycare center on Wednesday, July 13.
When police arrived at the daycare facility the next day with a search warrant, Letelier ran into the backyard and jumped a fence, but was soon captured.
Parents of the children enrolled at the daycare were notified of Letelier’s arrest, said Michael Weston, a spokesperson for the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).
Ximena Letelier is still licensed to care for children in her facility, but CDSS could temporarily suspend the license pending the outcome of the case, said Weston.
“Now, we’re just trying to determine who had the knowledge of the alleged activity and now who has responsibility for the care and supervision of the children,” added Weston.
CDSS records show that Ximena Daycare has had no complaints in the past five years. Unannounced facility visits in 2012, 2014 and 2015 showed no deficiencies. In early 2014, the center received approval to increase its capacity to care for up to 14 children.
Letelier—who faces charges of oral copulation or penetration on a child under 10 years old and resisting arrest—was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in Yolo County.
