A West Covina man riding a bicycle was arrested on Tuesday, July 26th for a vehicle code violation in the area of Francisquito and Orange.
After West Covina officers had chased the suspect down and brought him into custody, the suspect had a few items that were determined to have been stolen. The items consisted of jewelry, wallets, and credit cards.
During the investigation, officers also noticed that the stolen credit cards matched the names of the victims whose cars have been recently burglarized, said authorities.
According to the report, “The officers also noted that the suspect matched the description of a photo taken and posted on social media by a concerned citizen the day before,” when a citizen managed to capture an image of the suspect on his bike and posted the image on Facebook and Instagram. The Facebook post of the suspect had around 4,000 shares, which helped alert the entire community via social media.
The West Covina PD obtained a flier of the image to assist in locating him.
The suspect, 22-year-old Carlos Flores Jr., was arrested and booked at the West Covina jail.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office charged Flores with Burglary and Grand Theft. His bail has been set at $40,000.
