SAN RAFAEL – According to a recent press release by the San Rafael Police Department (SRPD), three people, one adult and two juveniles, were arrested after assaulting and robbing a man in San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood.
On Tuesday, August 9th, 2016, shortly after 10pm, SRPD began receiving 911 calls about a man who had just been robbed near 61 Novato Street in San Rafael. Officers responded to the area and located the victim who had been attacked and punched. The suspects had fled with the victim’s property. Officers were able to obtain a description of three males that had committed the robbery and began checking the surrounding area for the suspects.
About 40 minutes later, they located subjects who matched descriptions given by witnesses. They attempted to make contact with the subjects but they ran away on foot. A perimeter around the area was established and additional officers were called to the scene.
The subjects were located in the area of Francisco Boulevard East and Vivian Way. The subjects were detained and determined to be the suspects involved in the robbery. Officers found the stolen property in the possession of the three suspects.
The arrested adult was identified as Ashwan Wells, an 18-year-old resident of San Rafael. The identity of the two juveniles will not be released. Ashwan Wells was booked at the Marin County Jail for robbery and conspiracy. The two juveniles were also booked for the same charges at the Marin County Juvenile Hall.
The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and later released. The suspects in this case are also under investigation for additional robberies that have taken place in the surrounding neighborhoods.
