13300 area of Skaggs Springs Road, Geyserville
SANTA ROSA – According to a recent Community Advisory issued by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Deputies were called to the 13300 block of Skaggs Springs Road in Geyserville on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at about 9:00 PM to assist a Cal Fire Batallion Chief with an arson investigation. Deputies found upon arrival that the Chief had detained a woman for setting fires in the vicinity.
During the course of the investigation SCSO Deputies learned that an alert property owner came across the woman setting fires along the road. The property owner tried to stop her from lighting the current fire and then sought her assistance to put it out while he called for help.
SCSO Deputies learned that the woman claimed to be dropped off by her boyfriend in this very remote region of Sonoma County. She said she was setting fires so someone would come and help her.
Through the course of the investigation it was determined that the woman set approximately 13 spot fires along the side of the road, which encompassed a total of 2 acres which had burned. During a search of her purse, ammunition was also found which she was not legally allowed to possess due to a previous felony conviction.
The Cal Fire Battalion Chief was able to extinguish all of the fires. The woman was identified as Maria Acevedo, a 26-year-old resident of Geyserville.
Acevedo was arrested for arson, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and an outstanding arrest warrant for a drug related charge. She was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and is being held on $45,000 bail.
