PICO RIVERA – An ‘Assault with a deadly weapon, Knife call’ sent LASD deputies to the scene of teen Elena Lillian Moore’s (16) fatal stabbing in her home by ex-boyfriend Rory Murga (17) at 3:15 a.m. on August 12, 2016.
Murga allegedly entered his ex-girlfriend’s home and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the home, police said.
Lt. Eddie Hernandez of L. A. County Sheriff’s Dept. said that Elena’s mother was suddenly awoken by her daughter’s screams that she had been stabbed as she staggered up the stairs into her mother’s bedroom and collapsed.
The mother immediately called for help. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if the suspect was allowed into the residence by the victim or if he forced his way in. The motive for the attack is unknown at this time. The victim and the ex-boyfriend’s one-year dating relationship had ended two weeks prior to the killing.
Elena had been downstairs in her home when the suspect entered the home through the back door.
During the four-day search, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to Pico Rivera Station’s summer enforcement team spotted Murga at 7:35 a.m. on August 16th under a railroad underpass at Rosemead Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, Pico Rivera. He identified himself as Rory Murga, Jr.
L.A. County District Attorney’s Office has charged the teen with murder. Murga was charged with one count of murder with the special allegation of using a dangerous and deadly weapon during the commission of the crime, according to officials. He was also charged as an adult.
Murga faces a sentence of 26 years to life a maximum in state prison, if convicted.
