Steven Sengkeo Sengsourygna
FRESNO — On Saturday, August 20th, 35-year-old Steven Sengkeo Sengsourygna brandished what appeared to be a handgun at an individual on S. Geneva, prompting a 911 call.
The suspect threatened one man, putting the weapon against his neck and threatening to kill him. He soon left on foot, but his continued threatening behavior prompted several more 911 calls in the vicinity.
Responding officers spotted Sengsourygna running through an apartment complex in the 2100 block of MLK. As he ran, he pointed his weapon at an officer who was approaching in a patrol car. The officer then fired several rounds through his windshield at the suspect.
After setting up a perimeter, the police were able to soon arrest him and take him to the hospital for treatment of a graze would to the head before booking him.
The suspect has an extensive criminal history and is a gang member known to the police. They determined that the “gun” used in this incident was actually a replica that resembled a semi-automatic handgun.
Lt. Joe Gomez reports that this is the 7th officer-involved shooting in 2016. There were a total of 9 such shootings in Fresno in 2015.
