WEST SACRAMENTO — Following an early morning violent assault on Saturday, August 20, 2016, two police officers were injured, with one sustaining serious but non-life threatening injuries during the arrest.

The assault occurred at approximately 5:30 am when West Sacramento officers received a call about a man who was causing a disturbance on Pecan Court.  When the officers arrived and approached the man, he acted irrationally and confrontational. During the struggle to handcuff the suspect and get him into the police vehicle, one officer sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.  A second officer reported minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The suspect, Terence Mitchell, 23, of Sacramento, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The officers are both five-year West Sacramento police veterans.
