SALINAS — 30-year-old Derrieon DeShawn Nora is in custody after stealing a 52-year-old woman’s car with her Pomeranian dog still inside.
Early on Saturday morning, September 3rd, Nora was walking along West Rossi Street trying to stop vehicles. He nearly managed to yank a driver out of their car, but the person drove away. Then he was able to stop a vehicle occupied by the woman and her dog.
Nora allegedly stepped up onto the vehicle’s side rail and leaned into the window, opened the driver’s side door, and told the woman he needed her car because someone was trying to kill him. He then pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair, put the vehicle in reverse, and backed the truck into the vehicle behind them. After getting in, he was able to flee at a high rate of speed.
A police office ron patrol nearby spotted the vehicle on West Market & Riker and conducted a stop. Nora was taken into custody without further incident, despite the high-risk nature of the stop.
Nora was booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of carjacking, hit-and-run, parole violation, and a felony warrant. The dog, fortunately, was reunited with its owner.
