MORGAN HILL — Police have arrested 18-year-old Ernesto Garza after a high-speed chase through the streets of downtown Morgan Hill that ended up in the streets of Gilroy on Monday.
That Monday, September 12, police responded to the area of Carriage Drive and Llagas Road after reports of a suspicious vehicle casing the area for over 20 minutes. Officers located the vehicle parked at the side of the road. When they tried to approach it, it sped away. It was also soon discovered that the vehicle had fled from the scene of a hit-and-run accident.
A witness stated that he saw the driver throw a handgun out the window, which was confirmed later when the weapon was recovered from underneath a Valley Transit Authority bus.
They were also able to catch up to the vehicle on East Dunne Ave and 101, where they continued to give chase as the driver refused their demands to pull over. He finally exited the freeway and led officers on a pursuit through the streets of Gilroy.
The pursuit finally ended when the vehicle stopped in front of a residence on Eigleberry Street. The suspect, identified as Garza, was quickly arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
