MILPITAS — According to the Milpitas Police Department, a homicide of a 47-year old transient man occurred on the 100 block of Dixon Road behind the Sunnyhills Shopping Center just blocks from the Milpitas Police Department.

Some time after the early morning hours of 3:51 a.m., the Milpitas 9-1-1 dispatch center received a phone call of a person being shot.  Dispatched officers arriving on the scene found a Hispanic male victim identified by family members as Robert Gutierrez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  He was taken to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Family members left flowers and a makeshift memorial near where the victim was shot. Video surveillance was pulled at the scene.

According to Milpitas Police Department no one has been taken into custody as the case is still ongoing.  In an early morning statement to the press Milpitas police Lt. Raj Maharaj said, “We’re looking for video, we’re looking for witnesses.”

The shooting comes just days after the San Jose Police Department announced its thirty-seventh homicide, and marking its eighth homicide involving a transient in the city of San Jose.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400.
