Cambrian Park Cat Killer Pleads Guilty to 21 felony animal cruelty charges

Robert Farmer

SANTA CLARA COUNTY – A 25-year-old South Bay resident has pled guilty to 21 counts of felony animal cruelty.  According to the District Attorney’s Office, “A 25-year-old South Bay man pleaded guilty today to killing and injuring more than 20 cats that he stole from the streets of a quiet residential San Jose neighborhood.”

Robert Farmer pled guilty to 21 counts of felony animal cruelty on October 4, 2016.  Farmer faces up to 16 years in prison for the killing of some 16 cats and hurting of several others.  Farmer will appear in court on December 8, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in department 39 for a pre-sentencing hearing.

“As this sad case comes to a close, our thoughts are with the families who lost their beloved pets,” prosecutor Alexandra Ellis said. “We intend to hold Mr. Farmer accountable for his perverse and violent acts.”

During the investigation over a two-month period that started in August of 2015, Farmer began abducting cats from the Cambrian Park neighborhood. He was arrested on October 8, 2015, as he slept in his car at a Home Depot parking lot.  When officers identified Farmer, a brief search of his car revealed the gruesome discovery of an unidentified dead orange tabby along with multiple cat collars.

Concerned pet owners and neighbors of the missing cats attended the court hearing seeking justice for their missing and, or killed cats.  Many have asked the DA’s Office to seek the maximum penalty against Farmer for the killing of their beloved pets.
