FRESNO – During the lunch hour on Monday, October 17th, police were called to the area of Marty and Ashland Avenues. The nature of the call concerned the stabbing of a 44-year-old man below the overpass.
The stab wound was to the victim’s upper back and was non-life threatening. The victim’s description of his assailant led to a search of the area and subsequent arrest of 39-year-old Mark Anthony Florez.
Florez was walking in a large field south of Ashlan Avenue and had an existing parole violation warrant.
Apparently, a verbal dispute arose between the two transients that led to the stabbing. However, the victim later did not cooperate with authorities and would not identify the suspect in a photo line up.
Florez faces no charges in the alleged assault but was arrested for his parole violation.
