SANTA BARBARA — Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, in her October 17th report to the media, revealed the recent results of an intensive investigation into reports of an active local area manufacturing operation allegedly producing copious amounts of Butane Honey Oil.
The veracity of those reports was established during the service of a search warrant upon a residence in the foothill community of West Camino Cielo, high above the City of Santa Barbara. When detectives arrived on the scene, six individuals were contacted and detained while the premises were searched.
That search proved fruitful beyond law enforcement expectations as investigators found “a Butane Honey Oil lab assembled and packed with marijuana to extract” as well as “numerous growing marijuana plants, more than 19 pounds of processed marijuana, over 11 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, more than 14 ounces of honey oil, over 943 pounds of marijuana shake” and substantial evidence of an ongoing honey oil distillation manufacturing process.
According to Hoover, “the complexity of the BHO lab” was such that additional law enforcement manpower was brought in from the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Task Force, a team expert in handling the equipment and hazardous materials involved in the honey oil production process.
Of the six people detained, Santa Barbara resident Brennen Prowell, 34, was taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prescription medication without a prescription.
