MOUNTAIN VIEW — The Mountain View Police Department has announced the arrest of three car theft suspects who’d been discovered in the area of Rengstroff Avenue and Latham Street in Mountain View.

According to the MVPD, “On Thursday, October 27th, at approximately 1:45 pm, an MVPD officer checked the license plate of a vehicle [which nearly] collided with him while making an unsafe lane change.”

The patrolling officer began to initiate a traffic stop after watching three suspects in a white Honda run a red light in hazardous rain conditions.  Once the driver saw the officer, he began to drive at a high rate of speed and later ditched the vehicle — which was eventually found to have been stolen out of San Jose.

According to MVPD, “[the pursuit] ended at San Antonio Road when the three occupants exited the vehicle and ran.”

The three suspects were identified as 31-year-old Mitchell Sharpe from San Jose, 18-year-old Robert Mejia, and a 17-year-old juvenile suspect.

Sharpe was apprehended while trying to exit the vehicle from the driver’s side, while the two other suspects had taken off in the direction of a construction site.  Officers from local police agencies in the area of Palo Alto and Los Altos joined the search, and the two suspects were found quickly.
