MERCED — Police recently received a call concerning “shots fired” on the 4600 block of Beckham Way last Friday afternoon.
Upon arrival they discovered three shooting victims lying in the road. Although they’d sustained serious injuries to the legs and torso, it is believed that they will survive.
Police discovered that the suspect was still in a house nearby, but refused to surrender and went as far as firing a shot.
The suspect ultimately surrendered without further incident. SWAT was not deployed, although they were ready at the scene.
52-year-old Raul Diaz Moreno was subsequently charged with three counts of attempted homicide. His victims were 17- and 19-year-old females and a 21-year-old male. His bail was set at $1.5 million.
It was later discovered that Moreno is the pastor at Victory Outreach Church in Merced, and that one of his victims is his adopted daughter.
