Murder suspect arrested after ID by public

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department has announced the arrest of a wanted homicide suspect in the shooting death of 37-year-old David Moglen near Willow and First Street in San Jose.

According to San Jose police, 28-year-old Eddie Ruiz was identified as the suspect in the fatal robbery that turned deadly on July 28.

Reports of a shooting came in to the San Jose 9-1-1 call center around 10:00 pm. A passerby told police of a man shot multiple times near a Willow Glen business.  When SJPD officers arrived on the scene they located the victim who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

“Follow-up investigation from Homicide detectives led to the identification of suspect Eddie Ruiz,” SJPD Sergeant Enrique Garcia said. “He was arrested on Friday, October 7, 2016, in the City of Los Altos Hills, and was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Murder – 187 PC and Attempted Robbery – 664/211 PC.”

Police had released video of the suspect in a search to help identify the suspect thought to be responsible for the shooting.

This was San Jose’s 29th homicide of 2016.  The number has since risen to more than 40 homicides with the stabbing and shooting death of eight homeless victims.
