Manuel Garcia
FRESNO – The Fresno Sheriff’s Office reported that the van was “suspicious.” Whatever helped to render that verdict, it was confirmed one night before Thanksgiving when, after police pulled it over, its three occupants darted from it and ran away.
The incident occurred at 1:30 AM near the intersection of Griffith and Van Ness.
Once the trio temporarily escaped, police set up a parameter and brought in the K-9. Soon, two of the men were discovered on the rooftop of a home on N. Wilson Avenue. They were arrested, but the third man was not found.
The arrestees were identified as 20-year-old Manuel Garcia and 18-year-old Kyle Sarver. They were charged with vehicle theft (the van was stolen) and possession of burglary tools.
That same morning at around 4, a deputy saw two men jump into a truck, also near Van Ness, and peal away at a high speed. A pursuit began, and ended, at Maroa and Princeton when the van “crashed into the railroad tracks.”
The two suspects decided to continue the chase on foot, and deputies joined in the pursuit. Before long, 19-year-old Joe Reyes and 32-year-old Elio Gamez were under arrest.
The truck turned out to be stolen, and the duo were charged with vehicle theft, evading police and possession of drugs.
