TULARE – Sheriff Mike Bordeaux opened the Tulare SD’s annual holiday holiday open house last Wednesday before overseeing the giveaway of 20 bicycles to PAL kids.
The youth are part of the Sheriff’s Junior Explorer Youth Program who received the gift for doing very well in school. They also received a helmet.
Bordeaux stated, “It does my heart good to see how much the deputies really care about the youth in our county,” he said. “These children can be anything they want to be.”
After the Junior explorer program, kids can become Explorers, who learn basic police skills including how to do a traffic stop and interview a witness.
The next step after for interested Explorers is to apply for a Pathways Scholarship for college and the police academy.
