Stolen gun on Timothy George
BERKELEY – A motorcycle cop arrested two men during a Monday morning traffic stop on the 1800 block of University Avenue. One man was caught carrying a stolen gun and his companion had an outstanding arrest warrant.
An officer stopped a car with three occupants for a vehicle code violation shortly before 10:30 a.m. on December 12. Minutes after running computer checks, the officer was instead detaining two suspected felons.
DeAndre I. Bess, 20 of Oakland, who was driving with a suspended license, had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence.
Bess was booked at Berkeley Jail, charged with willfully inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license. He was later transported to Santa Rita Jail, where he’s being held for $35,000 bail.
Timothy D. George, Jr., 18, of Berkeley, who was sitting in the backseat aroused the officer’s suspicion, when it appeared he was trying to hide something under his shirt.
After the officer saw a firearm sticking out, George was removed from the vehicle, searched and found in possession of loaded handgun. It turns out the gun was reported stolen in August from a car in Vallejo.
George was charged with carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of stolen property. He was booked in Berkeley Jail and later transported to Santa Rita Jail, where he’s being held for $100,000 bail.
The third passenger who was sitting the front passenger seat, the daughter of the vehicle’s owner was released at the scene and the car was towed away. She presumably had some explaining to do with the owner.
