Fight erupts into gunshots as Santa Clara Police approach

Stevens Creek and Kiely Boulevards

SANTA CLARA  — The Santa Clara Police Department reported the arrest of two individuals found to be fighting near a car lot located along the 4200 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard near Kiely Boulevard, along the Santa Clara/San Jose border.

According to Sgt. Enrique Garcia with the San Jose Police Department, during a fight between three individuals, Santa Clara Police witnessed several males fighting.  During a brief altercation one of the suspects began firing at the other suspects walking near the sidewalk in front of the car lot Toyota.

During a quick lockdown of the area the Santa Clara Police Department called in for the help of the San Jose Police to try and locate the third suspect who had fled the scene on foot and was considered extremely dangerous.

During the detainment of a second suspect, he was taken out of the police vehicle after trying to kick out the side window of the vehicle to try and escape.  Police removed him from the vehicle and placed him in a standard restraint used to stop an individual from being able to kick.

While on scene, the SJPD Canine Unit responded with two canine dogs to and locate the third suspect in the vicinity of the car lot where the suspect was last seen running on foot.  During the search for the suspect a loaded handgun was found tossed in the street nearby.

An arrest of the third suspect is pending further investigation into the shooting.
