Matthew Salewske
SANTA CLARA COUNTY — According to Sergeant Rich Glennon with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, “On Sunday, December 25th, at approximately 11:00 AM, deputies were dispatched to a residence in unincorporated Gilroy for the report of a domestic disturbance.” Responding deputies arrived at the scene; it was suspected that the son of a 70-year-old woman had hit her with a baseball bat.
The suspect, 39-year-old Matthew Salewske of Gilroy, was located at the scene of the beating and taken into custody, after interviews with several witnesses who watched as he attacked his mother. Investigation into the attack by investigators is still ongoing.
Glennon said, “Claudia Salewske, aged 70, succumbed to her injuries in the course of receiving emergency hospital care.” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were able to determine that Salewske, in a fit of rage, hit his mother in the head, causing her to die from blunt force trauma.
Salewske was subsequently arrested by Sheriff’s Office deputies and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on a charge of murder. Salewske is being held without bail and is expected to appear in court on Thursday, December 29, 2016.
