Looking down the 600 block of E. Cypress
BURBANK – On Tuesday night police received multiple calls concerning gunfire on the 600 block of E. Cypress Avenue.
Upon arrival they noticed spent shell casings beneath a balcony of an aprtment, a broke flowerpot and an open door nearby. Officers then entered the apartment and came upon 46-year-old Rommel Mendoza lying next to a rifle.
Mendoza proved uncooperative, but officers detained and removed him from the apartment. The suspect also had a knife hidden in his boot.
With a search warrant, they searched Mendoza’a apartment and car and discovered several loaded rifles, rifle parts and ammunition.
Although they found no victims of the gunfire, police determined that Mendoza fired off shots from both inside and outside of his apartment, and was therefore charged with negligent discharge of a firearm and battery on a police officer. His bail was $35,000.
