MIDDLETOWN — On January 19th, police received a report that 32-year-old John Antone Beckwith, a wanted federal fugitive, had been spotted in the Clear Lake area in Lake County.
At around 5:15 PM, detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Property Crimes Investigation Unit, as well as agents with the Sonoma County Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team, travelled to Lake County and found Beckwith sitting in a vehicle near the dead end of Saint Stephens Avenue in Middletown.
As patrol vehicles approached, Beckwith hit the gas and slammed into one of them before barreling through several fenced yards and emerging on Napa Avenue.
Beckwith continued to accelerate and ended up crashing into an unmarked detective vehicle, at which point he found himself blocked in by several arriving patrol cars.
After a brief struggle, Beckwith was taken into custody and booked into the Lake County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, felony evasion, misdemeanor hit and run, resisting arrest, and his federal no-bail warrant.
