RIVERSIDE — On Sunday night, police responded to reports of shots fired in an AM/PM parking lot in the 49oo block of La Sierra Avenue.
As the story unfolded, police learned that individuals arrived in a vehicle to the parking lot and some sort of altercation ensued. Apparently, an employee from the business next door attempted to intervene and a shot was fired at him.
As officers were on scene, a female returned to the scene and identified the the shooter and his whereabouts.
Police responded to the 10700 block of Campbell Avenue and saw the suspect inside of a residence as they surrounded it.
The suspect, 27-year-old Eric Scott, would not respond to commands to exit and expressed his desire to commit “suicide by cop.”
SWAT responded, as well as ENT (Emergency Negotiations Team), who were able to convince the suspect to emerge and surrender.
Scott was charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and resisting arrest.
