Transient couple arrested in Mountain View after evidence links them to multiple burglaries, mail theft

Michael Wiggins and Rohita Prasad

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Mountain View Police have arrested a transient couple for multiple residential burglaries after locating them in a stolen vehicle.

According to the Mountain View Police Department, “In the early morning hours on Tuesday, two officers were on foot patrol in the 700 block of Continental Circle when they spotted two people sitting inside a car.”

“During a routine patrol check, officers approached the car finding, 46-year-old Michael Wiggins and 37-year-old Rohnita Prasad, who appeared to be living in the car, along with Prasad’s seven-month-old son.”

During a brief check of the couple and the vehicle registration, MVPD officers soon learned that the car was stolen out of a Mountain View resident’s garage back in October of 2016.  The pair was also in possession of stolen mail and packages along with other stolen items thrown about in the stolen car.

It is believed that the couple had stolen the mail and other items while parked near residential areas, intent on finding valuable items to pawn and/or sell for cash.

According to Mountain View Police, “Wiggins and Prasad were detained and brought back to Mountain View PD, where they were subsequently arrested on multiple charges of residential burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics, possession of burglary tools and child endangerment.”

The Mountain View Police Department is asking that anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a burglary to please contact Mountain View  Burglary Detectives at 650-903-6368.
