NEWARK — A man subject to probation supervision was arrested this week for drug and more serious felony charges, after an officer observed a speeding vehicle and pulled over the driver on Cedar Boulevard, near Civic Terrace.

The driver’s probation status enabled police to search his car and later his Dupont Avenue home, where 2.7 grams and 1.9 grams of suspected cocaine were found, respectively.

Police encountered some resistance from the suspect, which involved another person being used as a human shield, prior to an arrest being made.

The suspect Juan M. Ochoa-Sanchez, 31, of Newark, was booked at Santa Rita Jail on January 24, charged with possession of a controlled substance, false imprisonment of a hostage to prevent arrest, and threatening death or great bodily harm to another person. His bail was set at $75,000
