SEASIDE — Police are investigating two attempted homicides which occurred on the same night. 30 minutes after midnight, they were notified of a shooting near Mescal Street and Mingo Avenue. The other occurred three hours later on 1875 Fremont Boulevard.
In the first incident, a vehicle occupied by three Hispanic males pulled up alongside another vehicle and opened fire. The shooter was described as being in his mid- to late twenties with black hair pulled back from his face. The vehicle was described as a dull grey late ’90s to early ’00s two-door with a square back.
The crime is being investigated as possibly gang-related, although the victim is not believed to have any gang affiliation.
In the second incident, a man was stabbed after an altercation with coworkers at the Magic Carpet Lodge at 1876 Fremont Boulevard. He was transported to a trauma center for treatment and his condition is reportedly stable. Unlike the first incident, police do not believe the stabbing to be gang-related.
The investigations are ongoing and police are asking for the public’s help.
Despite these events, police have advised the public that gang-related crimes have dropped significantly in Seaside over the last year due to citizens’ continued efforts to report suspicious activity. People are urged to continue keeping a watchful eye and contact police if things are amiss.
