McKINLEYVILLE — On February 7th just before noon, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and CHP officers arrived on the 1600 block of Woody Road after reports of an erratic driver. While en route, they’d also been alerted that shots had been fired.
The suspect in question was in his home when police arrived, refusing to cooperate verbally. A negotiator with the Sheriff’s Office managed to get him on the phone and talk him outside, whereupon he was arrested without incident. He was unarmed.
The suspect, 56-year-old Michael Dwayne Stone, had fired at least three shots at a family member and friend as they sat in a vehicle outside the home. Nobody was injured. The firearm was later found in the home and seized as evidence.
Stone has been booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for attempted murder and negligent discharge of a firearm. His bail is set at $500,000.
