WEAVERVILLE — At around 2 PM on February 7th, county Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at a home on Masonic Lane after reports that the homeowner, 39-year-old Robert Paul Sorensen Jr., had been firing a gun in his front yard.
Responding deputies detained Sorensen and spoke with witnesses who said he’d been firing a gun at the ground in the front yard. He was then arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm.
A search warrant was obtained and deputies searched the home later that afternoon. They found a spent .45 shell casing on the front lawn and a .45 caliber bullet embedded in the lawn. A loaded .45 caliber Hi-Point pistol with the serial number filed off as well as narcotics paraphernalia were also found inside the home.
Sorensen later admitted to firing the gun, believing that the neighborhood cats had been harassing his own.
Sorensen is currently housed at the Trinity County Jail on $25,000 bail.
