Mariano Elias Cordonas
Santa Barbara County – Apparently Cupid forgot to string his bow this Valentine’s Day when flitting through a Santa Maria neighborhood in search of likely targets upon whom to confer uncontrollable romantic desires, as demonstrated by events allegedly transpiring late on the evening of February 14th which ended with the arrest of Mariano Elias Cordonas, a 37-year-old local resident.
When Santa Maria Police were notified by Emergency Department medical staff at Santa Maria’s Marian Regional Medical Center of the arrival of a female stabbing victim, officers responded to the hospital.
According to the SMPD’s report to the media, “the victim told investigators her husband had taken her to Marian” after he had attacked her with a knife and repeatedly stabbed her.
In spite of multiple lacerations and stab wounds to her head, face, and neck, she further indicated during her conversation with detectives that she believed her husband—who had brought her to the hospital—was “likely still in the hospital parking lot.”
Officers immediately exited the hospital building and soon discovered Cordonas “hiding in his vehicle,” whereupon he was contacted and promptly taken into custody.
He was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, mayhem, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Cordonas’ wife was treated for her wounds and subsequently released to enjoy the remainder of her Valentine’s Day.
