WOODLAND — Just before 8 AM on February 21st, officers arrived at 154 Lincoln Avenue after onsite staff reported a suspicious person having broken into the laundry and maintenance building.
Given that the suspect had apparently barricaded himself inside, officers had to force their way in. It wasn’t long before they noticed evidence of a break-in, recent drug use, and indication that the suspect had crawled into the overhead crawlspace and rummaged through other rooms — specifically, the main office, which was found to have been burglarized.
When orders to surrender were ignored, police service dog Chase was called upon to flush him out. Though the suspect tried to put up a fight, Chase was not injured. A subsequent search of the crawlspace also turned up many of the items taken from the office.
The suspect — identified as 28-year-old Woodland transient Juan Carlos Reyes Ibarra — was arrested at the scene and received medical treatment for his injuries before being booked into Yolo County Jail on charges of burglary, vandalism, and assaulting a police service dog.
