GARBERVILLE — On February 26th just after 9 AM, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the 500 block of Melville Road to investigate a residential burglary.
Two burglaries had been reported — the residents had been home, items had been stolen, and yet there’d been no evidence of forced entry.
Later that day at around 3:30 PM, one of the victims contacted deputies to report that his laptop — one of the items stolen during the burglaries — had alerted him to an activation from the 900 block of Redwood Drive.
Deputies traced the location and came into contact with one Scott Antonio Arreguin (28), who was not in possession of the computer but was nonetheless known to deputies. He did, however, happen to be wearing a pair of shoes which matched the description of a pair stolen during the burglaries.
Arreguin was soon found to be staying at a room at the Lone Pine Motel on Redwood Drive, which was promptly searched. It was there that deputies discovered a plethora of stolen items from several different Southern Humboldt County burglaries reported over the past two weeks.
A second suspect, 27-year-old David Andrew Jones, was at the motel room and placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant.
Both suspects were taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on their respective charges. Arreguin’s charges include burglary, possession of stolen property, and an outstanding felony warrant.
