MERCED — On March 12th just before 5 PM, local police arrived on the 1500 block of Tanner Road after a report of a man brandishing a handgun. The reporting party told dispatchers that the man had threatened to shoot him and any cops who showed up.
Officers arrived and spoke with one Antonio Garcia (38), whom they found standing outside and appeared to match the description given by the victim.
As officers approached Garcia, they could see the gun poking out of one of his pockets and ordered him to the ground. When Garcia ignored the order, he was forced to the ground and cuffed.
A subsequent search revealed a loaded handgun, which Garcia had been keeping in his pocket, as well as Garcia’s status as a convicted felon who is prohibited from owning firearms.
Garcia was booked into the Los Banos PD jail with bail set at $320,000. He is charged with criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition.
