SACRAMENTO — Police arrested a man early Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017, on suspicion of stabbing a woman and kidnapping her six-year-old son.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when the woman was spotted by an officer as he was working security near 7th and K Streets in Sacramento. She was the passenger in a white SUV when she started to yell and wave her arms at the officer.
The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop the car, but the driver did not pull over. Instead, the suspect, identified as Leon McGowan, 36, of Pollock Pines, headed northbound to North 16th Street before getting onto the Capital City freeway. He eventually pulled over by the Madison exit and got out of the car.
He did not listen to the additional officers who arrived at the scene when he was instructed to lie down. Officers deployed a taser, bean bag rounds, and a K-9 at the suspect when it appeared he was going to get back into his car.
Officers then turned their attention to the woman, who was suffering from a stab wound. She was sent to a nearby hospital to be treated and was released later Tuesday morning. The boy was unharmed.
The suspect was said to be in a relationship with the woman and that the child was their son. McGowan was arrested on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, child endangerment, felony vehicular evading, resisting arrest, and impeding a victim from contacting police.
