Absadi Tewelde Kidane
SANTA MONICA – Donald Thomas Jr. lost his life on Wednesday when he was struck by a car as he paid for his parking at a kiosk next to the Santa Monica courthouse.
The driver of the offending vehicle left the scene, hit another vehicle and then ran away on foot. He was shortly thereafter detained and arrested on the 300 block of Pico Boulevard.
21-year-old Absadi Tewelde Kidane was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and resisting an officer.
He pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor requested a bail of $10 million. If convicted, Kidane faces a maximum sentence of more than 15 years in prison.
