Rene Cervantez
Ventura County – Proving once again that the indefatigable entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the City of Oxnard, on April 5th, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department West County Narcotics Team—working in concert with patrol units attached to the Oxnard Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Team—discovered that 35-year-old Oxnard resident Rene Cervantez has been hard at work building his business.
The only problem with Cervantez’ business plan, however, is that it appears to have involved the sale of controlled substances, an activity which brought him under the scrutiny of the aforementioned law enforcement entities.
It was the observation of Cervantez’ industrious nature over a two month period that led VCSD and OPD personnel to make contact with him “at a location in El Rio,” according to VCSD spokesman Sgt. Guy Moody.
While that contact was ongoing, the Oxnard Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Unit simultaneously served “a signed search warrant” upon his residence in Oxnard, some ten miles distant.
The fruits of the execution of that search warrant were such—“over two ounces of heroin, three ounces of methamphetamine, and narcotics paraphernalis” as well as an undisclosed “large sum” of cash—that Cervantez immediately qualified for secure chauffeured transportation to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on “numerous narcotic violations,” with his bail set at $500,000.
