VALLEY SPRINGS — On April 27th just before midnight, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the 400 block of La Contenta Drive to investigate an assault report.
An 83-year-old woman reported that a man — later identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey Alan Greg — had assaulted and tried to strangle her. At one point she locked herself in her bedroom, but Greg was able to break in. She later managed to escape the home and call police.
Additional deputies and CHP officers responded, at which point Greg barricaded himself in a room in the home and refused to come out.
Deputies eventually forced their way in and Greg instantly became combative, kicking and punching at officers for well over 10 minutes. By the end of it all, it took four deputies and two CHP officers to restrain and arrest him. Two deputies later had to be transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, as did Greg himself. His victim received treatment at the scene and was released.
Greg later admitted to having been under the influence of a controlled substance.
He is currently housed at the Calaveras County Jail on charges of battery against a peace officer, causing harm to a dependent, criminal threats, obstruction/resisting a peace officer, false imprisonment, and resisting an executive officer, to the tune of $1,225,000 bail.
