Selis with gun in one hand, beer in the other
SAN DIEGO – On Sunday evening, the poolside at the La Jolla Crossroads condominium complex on the 9000 block of Judicial Drive was the scene of a shooting.
The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Peter Selis. Apparently he had shot seven people, four females and three males, with a .45 caliber weapon as they gathered to celebrate a birthday party at the pool area.
Monique Clark, one of the female victims, died from her injuries.
In addition, the shooter had fired at a female security guard but had missed. Responding officers were also shot at and returned fire, killing Sells at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that Sells had no connection to those he had shot, but was rather distraught over a recent break-up. Witnesses say he was calmly and silently reclining in a chair, holding a beer, during the shooting.
It has also been reported that Sells, the son of a prominent dentist in San Diego, called his ex-girlfriend and had her on the phone as he began shooting so that she could hear the crime in progress. He had worked as a mechanic at Mossy Ford in Mission Bay and had filed for bankruptcy in October of 2015. He had no criminal record.
