Attempted Robbery in McDonald’s Parking Lot

IRVINE — It was supposed to be a car deal, where the buyer would bring cash in exchange for a car.  The seller and buyer agreed to meet in the McDonald’s parking lot to complete the deal.

On Tuesday, April 25th, the victim arrived at the Orchard Hills McDonald’s at 3853 Portola Parkway with $50,000 in cash in his backpack.  The purported seller of the Porsche Cayenne, 30-year-old Ziwen Li, invited the victim into his car.

Li proceeded to tell the victim he was not there to sell the car but to take the money for his friend.  The victim tried to exit and Li grabbed his backpack.

The victim began resisting and screaming and Li punched him in the face twice.  Fortunately, he was able to bail out of the car with his money and Li drove away, but not before yelling threats at the victim.

On Thursday, April 27th, police located and arrested Li in Arcadia.  The only charge listed so far is robbery.
