SACRAMENTO — A Sacramento man was arrested on Saturday, May 6, 2017, in connection with a fatal shooting during a party celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
Kejhonne Henderson, 18, was arrested on several charges—suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon following an incident at a house party on the 4400 Block of Greenholme Drive in Foothill Farms. The victim, Jordan Pennell, 17, was shot and killed just before midnight on May 5, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
People at the party said Pannell was shot over a dispute regarding a song selection. Sunnie Lane, who attended the party with her daughter and Pannell, told authorities that an unfamiliar man threatened Lane’s daughter, who was controlling the music.
Jordan “kind of got in the way and was like, “No, let’s go outside,” Lane recalled. “As soon as they got outside, [the man] started shooting him.”
When Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and continued trying to revive the victim. Pannell was eventually pronounced dead in front of the home from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
A stray bullet also tore through Lane’s left calf, which was bandaged, and a 19-year-old man showed up to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body in connection with this incident. He is expected to survive.
Henderson is ineligible for bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Tuesday May 9.
A vigil for Pannell is being planned for Saturday, May 13, 2017.
