SAN JOSE — The SJPD announced an arrest after the early morning burglary of the Tomorrow Montessori Preschool on May 4. The school is located at 2466 Almaden Road.
The suspect, later identified as Leticia Tavares Monila, forced entry into the school by breaking a window. It was apparent that the suspect, once inside the building, vandalized several areas as she took items from the class rooms.
The school has estimated the damages to be around $10,000 dollars. The damage to the school was so severe that it forced closure of the school building that serves 115 students.
As officers conducted a follow up investigation, Sgt. Teresa Jeglum and her southern division team was able to identify the female suspect through fingerprint analysis.
According to the SJPD Financial Crimes Detectives Khuong Nguyen and Sergeant Rich Bravo, “On Friday, May 12, at approximately 1:11 AM, patrol officers located the suspect in the area of S 1st street and E Alma Avenue in San Jose.” It was in that vicinity that she was detained, taken into custody without incident, and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for burglary, felony vandalism, and possession of drugs.
Assistant Chief Dave Knopf said, “This case highlights the continued professionalism and tenacity exhibited by our officers. Their dedication and compassion ensured justice was provided for the kids and community members affected by these crimes.”
