WATSONVILLE — Yesterday evening, residents of an East Watsonville neighborhood called police to report someone recklessly firing a weapon on the 400 block of East Beach Street. Even the dispatcher could hear the shots.
The incident occurred around 5:30 PM, at which time multiple reports came in. Police were in the area within minutes of the call, but the shooting had stopped once they arrived.
Officers canvassed the area looking for victims and/or suspects, and were eventually directed to the rear of a house on Beach Street, where the shots reportedly originated. A group of men were detained and questioned but denied involvement.
Detectives now on the scene discovered spent shell casings on the ground and fresh bullet holes along the rear fence, as well as along the exterior wall of a detached garage on the same property.
County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to aid in the search for suspects, though none have been identified or located as of yet. The investigation remains ongoing.
