Final Day of School Bomb and Shooting Plot, Anaheim Students Arrested
ANAHEIM – A last-day-of-school bomb and shooting plot, posted on Instagram and Kik by two male students (16), spurred authorities into early-morning action to protect the 2,055 students at the “Home of the Rebels” Savanna High School.
Police Sergeant Daron Wyatt announced, “School officials contacted Anaheim police early Thursday after learning of the threats, allegedly plotting to commit acts of violence on campus, including the placing of bombs and committing shootings which were posted on social media.”
Sgt. Wyatt continued, “APD personnel worked closely with school personnel and quickly identified the two students involved in the plan. Both students were located and contacted prior to the start of school. Based on information and evidence developed during the preliminary investigation, the two students were arrested for making criminal threats and will be booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall. ”
Detailed plans of the school-violence plot and maps of the Savanna High School campus were found at the suspects’ homes. One suspect was arrested at home and one at school.
Graduation was held at 4 PM at Handel Stadium.
The ongoing investigation is looking at other students who may have been involved.
Sgt. Wyatt commended the community, “The timely notification and quick response highlights the partnership between the school district and the police department, as well as our mission to provide a safe learning environment for Anaheim’s youth. The arrests should also serve as a message to all that the school district and the police department take these threats seriously and swift enforcement action will be taken in accordance with the letter of the law. Parents, staff, and students are encouraged to ‘See Something, Say Something’.”
