SANTA CLARA — The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 38-year-old woman who was thought to have killed a 74-year-old woman during a manic episode in which the female victim was randomly attacked by the suspect.
According to Sergeant Richard Glenn with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, “On June 10, 2017, at approximately 9:50AM, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office West Valley Patrol deputies responded to a residence on South Tantau Avenue for a death investigation.”
A call came in reporting that a friend of the elderly woman had found her inside the home, and that it appeared to be suspicious. Throughout the day, a K9 unit, as well as ground teams, helped search the Cupertino home for any evidence linking to the homicide.
Glenn said, “At approximately 10PM, Sheriff’s Office Homicide Investigators identified and arrested 39-year-old Los Gatos resident Suzanne Hernandez for the murder of the elderly female.”
Hernandez was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail and is currently being held without bail. Hernandez is believed to have acted alone and there are no additional suspects. During the time of the attack, it is believed that she was in a mental crisis and was seen walking along Stevens Creek Boulevard when a passerby called for an ambulance after she was found naked and talking to herself. She was arrested at the mental health facility at Valley Medical Center.
