Patrons Assaulted At Multiple Businesses, Ongoing Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation
PACOIMA — Detectives of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau are assisting San Fernando Police Department with an officer-involved shooting.
San Fernando PD immediately responded to several calls from businesses on the 12900 block of Corcoran Place at 5:32 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12th, where a male Hispanic adult had just assaulted multiple patrons inside of several businesses. Upon arrival, officers saw that the suspect had fled. A grid search of the area located the suspect on Dronfield Avenue south of Arroyo Street.
Attempts to detain the suspect resulted in a brief officer foot pursuit down a narrow alley. The suspect picked up dirt, hurling it in the face of, and temporarily blinding, the nearest pursuing officer. Next, the suspect grabbed a large rock or brick, appearing to throw it at the disabled officer.
Fearing for the first officer’s safety, a second officer fired one round and struck the suspect in the upper torso. Officers detained the suspect who was medically treated at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
